THE SELF IS AGELESS
Age is a matter of time. Age is a matter of calendar; age is a matter of years. But the Self or Atma is beyond age. It is timeless; it is immortal; it is nectarine, without spot or blemish. It has neither a beginning nor an end. Knowing this, how can you say you are old?
We know many elderly people, who can work more enthusiastically than most of the youngsters. Many of the youngsters, if you ask them to do any tedious work, some laborious work for half an hour, they will say, “Sir, I am tired. Give me some other work.” We have not come across any elderly person complaining, and we have not met any youngster who is not complaining. So now, who is actually young in spirit?
One can look young when the mind is fresh. One can look young when one is desireless. One can look young when one can share others' happiness, and unhappiness as well. One can look young when one is ever loving. One can look young when one is ever sharing, loving, caring, and concerned for everybody. One can look young when one is in the constant company of God. Once you are in the constant company of God, you are always young. Why? Because the youngest of the young, the oldest of the old is God Himself. He will never allow you to age, never. Therefore my friends, our problem is that we go by time, forgetting the Timeless. We go by our age, forgetting the One beyond age.
