God exists in human beings as well as in birds and beasts. Narayanan, one of the disciples, understood this literally, and not in its true spirit. One day, white Narayanan was walking along a narrow street, he found people coming towards him running. He asked them, "Why are you running? What has happened?" Most of them paid no attention to his questions. But, a few replied, "A mad elephant is coming this way," said one; Turn back, and run fast," said another. Then Narayanan could hear the voice of the mahout, "Keep away, keep away, the elephant might harm you." Narayanan remembered his Guru's teachings. He thought, I am God, the elephant also is God. So, how could it hurt me?" He tell in the next compound, and was seriously hurt. It took some time for him to get well. Meanwhile he was arguing in his mind, "Why did this happen to me? I believed in the teachings of my Guru. So, I remained there, trusting God in the elephant. Perhaps my teacher is wrong. I shah go to him and demand an explanation from him regarding this incident." Accordingly, when he got well, he went to the teacher and told him, "Dear sir, I think your theory, that everything is God, is wrong. If the elephant is God, how could it hurt me?" The teacher did not get him at first. but soon, he made Narayanan narrate the whole incident. Alter that, the teacher asked. Narayanan, "See, Narayanan, you had faith in the elephant-God. But, why didn't you listen to the other fellow human-Gods? Why didn't you have faith in them? Why didn't you obey the mahout-God? Besides the elephant, which, according to my theory, is God, there were many Gods in the form of human beings who gave you advice, warning; who wanted you to move away from the elephant's path. Why didn't you listen to them? The theory is not wrong, but you have understood the theory in the wrong manner." Narayanan realised his mistake.

This process of diminishing the luggage or shedding your desires as you go up in the journey of life does not mean abandoning the house, leaving your surroundings, leaving your wife, Leaving your children and living in a forest.
When we stay in the house, stay in the midst of our duties and perform our duties which we have to perform, having our minds free from desires and attachments to those duties, regarding all that we do as our actions for God’s pleasure.
